MET Ball Beauty: Get The Look - Kristen StewartKristen showed off her new hair color with a sassy fishtail braid!

For her first red carpet appearance in a year, all eyes were on Kristen Stewart as she arrived for the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala for more than just the fact that she’s one of the hottest young actresses around. The 24-year-old was boldly showing off a brand new vivid red hair color for her latest movie, “American Ultra”, and she was dressed in a dazzling feathered creation straight from the Chanel Spring 2014 Haute Couture runway.

If you could tear your eyes from every glittering feathered sway of her dress, you were immediately brought back to her electric hair that was twisted into an funky little ‘do created by Kristen’s mane man Adir Abergel.

Kristen’s eyes were given a dramatic smoky touch courtesy of her go-to makeup artist Jillian Dempsey while CHANEL Celebrity manicurist Gina Viviano topped the look off with an almost-black mani.

The Fashion Court has the scoop on how to recreate a desired part of Kristen’s look or, you know—from tip-2-toe!

the hair.

“After seeing the Chanel dress, I knew immediately I wanted to do a braid with knots in the back but with a great 40′s inspired wave in the front,” Adir Abergel dished to The Fashion Court. He achieved Kristen’s entire look using products from the KMS® California hair care line, and you can too with the following step-by-step breakdown below.

1. Adir started by blow drying Kristen’s hair with KMS® California FREE SHAPE 2-in-1 Styling + Finishing Spray ($19.99) from roots to ends, which acts like a great heat styler and adds moisture.

2. Adir layered KMS® California ADDVOLUME Volumizing Spray ($17.99) on the roots. Once her hair was 100% dried he put in a deep side part. Once the side part was determined he took sections of hair on the top front section and curled it around a 1 1/4 in curling iron and pinned to cool and set.

3. When the curls were set Adir brushed them out and use the KMS® California HAIRPLAY Design Wax ($17.99) to create the wave.

4. On the sides Adir pulled Kristen’s hair back into a French braid and half way down started to change it into a fish tail. Once the braid was finished he sprayed KMS® California HAIRSTAY Maximum Hold Spray ($17.99) and pulled the braid out to give it an undone feel that he loves.

the makeup.

When it came to her makeup, it was all about the drama! “It’s a dramatically chic look,” Jillian Dempsey explained. “I wanted to create a strong, sexy and sophisticated eye that would play off the sparkle of Kristen’s dress. I like to mix and blend shadows when I’m working to get the ‘real’ feeling of colors merged together on the skin. So I didn’t go very dramatic on the lips or brows to keep the intensity on the eyes.”

LAYING DOWN THE BASE: Jillian hydrated Kristen’s skin by letting the CHANEL Hydra Beauty Crème soak in before applying CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 20 Beige to given her an even tone. Kristen has been working long hours on her new movie, so Jillian covered any dark circles or imperfections with CHANEL Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer in 10 Beige Clair.

She gave Kristen’s cheeks a pink pinched appearance with CHANEL Powder Blush in Rose Initial.

PLAYING UP THE EYES: Jillian prepped Kristen’s eyes with By Terry Primer. After letting that sit, she started the smoky process with CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense on the upper and lower lash lines. “I like to wedge the tip between the individual lashes to fill in any spaces so there are no visible gaps in the lashes,” she dished.

Starting the shadows, Jillian selected the middle tone from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystère and used it all over the lid as a base shade; she then used the darker shade in the creases, and extended it out towards the corners for intense, dramatic effect. For the inner corners, Jillian layered the lightest shade from the Quad and topped it with a touch of CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Vision.

“I love how the sparkle in this color is revealed with the flash of the camera. So, I put it where I wanted to grab the light and highlight her eyes. I finished by taking a small nylon makeup brush and feathering out the black liner to create a smudgier look. I actually don’t mind it if makeup moves around a little. It looks cool when it’s worn in.”

Jillian topped her eyes off by curling the lashes twice with CHANEL Limited Edition Precision Eyelash Curler before swiping on two coats of Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir. To achieve the shimmering enhanced shade of her natural lip color, Jillian simply filled Kristen’s pout in with CHANEL Precision Lip Definer in Pretty Pink.

the nails.

MET Ball Beauty: Get The Look - Kristen StewartKristen often wears CHANEL nail polish on the red carpet, so it’s no surprise that Gina Viviano topped off her full French fashion house look with a dark mani. “Kristen showed me a picture of her dress, and said she wanted a softer version of black—more like charcoal. When I showed her CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Vertigo, which is a soft, well-rounded version of a classic black, she said ‘Yes!,’” Gina shared. “Kristen likes to keep her nails short, and I think a dark color on a short nail looks cool.”

NAILING IT: “I paid extra attention to her cuticles by applying a cuticle softener, soaking her hands in warm water and then pushing the skin back with gentle pressure. Doing this lets you get in very close with the nail polish, so there’s no visible space between the color and the cuticles. It’s a very precise look.”

Gina moisturized Kristen’s hands with CHANEL Body Excellence Nourishing and Rejuvenating Hand Cream.

“Next, I applied the CHANEL Protective Base Coat, followed by two coats of CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Vertigo. I placed the brush in the middle of the nail and pushed it slightly down to round out the bristles, and get that perfect curved edge around the cuticles. I finished with CHANEL Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer, which sets the polish fast but doesn’t leave any demarcation, just a smooth shine.”
